Appearing Live and Larger than life at the Hawera Auto Court Egmont Show 2016

The Nukes – ‘Ukulele will never be the same’

The Nukes are far more than a ukulele band. They are high entertainment. Part vaudeville, part rat-pack, part musical car crash. This talented trio deliver an engaging mix of humour and originality that audiences love. The Nukes will be both performing and running free workshops at this years show 19/20th November. The innocent little uke is the instrument of choice and audiences will be staggered by what they are able achieve with it. Great song writing, musicianship and 3-part harmony combine to create a truly memorable experience.

The Nukes have within a few years of being together toured in NZ and Australia and performed at many of NZ’s finest festivals from Bluff’s Oyster festival to WOMAD and the Auckland and Canterbury Folk Festival’s…to name a few.

Releasing two fine albums of their unique, original music along the way: 2012’s ‘Each to their own’ and late 2014’s ‘Lucky Ones’ which features the song ‘Last Kauri’ – which has racked up an impressive 22,000 + views on Youtube.

Here’s what a few festival directors have said…

“The Nukes blew the audiences’ socks off with the combination of humour, fantastic song-writing, great musicianship and singing”
Megan Peacock-Coyle. Oamaru Opera House.

“…’Original’ inventive and entertaining…”
Drew James. Taranaki Arts Festival.

“the Nukes experience is uplifting, fun and feel- good.”
Amanda Wright. Erupt Festival.

Reviews have been glowing about their new material…

“Highly intriguing and really skilful- a great mix of folk, bluegrass and reggae”
Grant Smithies – Radio NZ

“Lucky Ones is a revelation, standing comparison with any acoustic- folk songwriter act… a variety of beautifully arranged and harmonised songs, that are unpretentious, kiwi-as, yet neatly avoiding the instruments clichéd cutesiness.”
